Stencil Stories Altenew July 2026 Instagram Hop

Welcome back to our Instagram hop! We appreciate you for joining us for some amazing cards! If you have followed my work any, you know that I love to use stencils on my cards. It is a great way to mix designs and to create your own backgrounds. The huge bonus is that stencils are reusable! Altenew has some great stencil options available too.

When creating the backgrounds, I tend to use inks or embossing powders; however, stencils are versatile in that you can use a glaze, paste, etc. There are many options available to make a variety of unique cards using stencils.

To create a light background, I used the Altenew Lattice Blossom background stencil and the large Altenew blending brush. I used Coastal Haze dye ink. This card is a 5×7. Since this stencil is 6×6, I had to line it up to stencil the bottom portion to make the background seamless.

For the rose outline, I used the Altenew Gilded Rose hot foil plate. Instead of using hot foil, I used embossing ink and a gold embossing powder. Once the rose was inlaid with gold embossing powder, I used the Gilded Rose layering stencils, and the large and mini blending brushes. There are four stencils in this layering set. For the lightest color of the rose, I used Pastel Sunrise dye ink. The second layer, I used Dusty Rose. The third layer used is Toasted Mauve, and the fourth layer used is Redwood dye ink. Once I finished all the layers, I hand-cut the rose. There is not a die for this set, but cutting it out is easy.

If you have not used press plates before, Altenew has several nice press plate sentiment sets. I used the Classical Sentiments Press Plates set and Nimbus dye ink. To ensure the ink goes on smoothly, I sometimes rub it with a sticky ink, such as a clear embossing ink, then clean it off with a lint-free towel. This helps when the ink is juicy to not bubble up on the press plate. You can do this for stamps too! Altenew has a coordinating stamp and die set for these Classical Sentiments Press Plates if you prefer to stamp it instead of using a press plate.

Using foam dimensional tape, I popped up the gilded rose, then I glued the sentiment on top of the rose. Then, I added Altenew Sicilian Amber Sparkle Gems for a finishing touch. You could use less of the gems if you prefer. I liked the added bling!
