Our Altenew theme this month is Wild Wonders! Anything in nature, insects, or animals! I really enjoyed making several different cards with this theme.

I made this card using the following steps:
- Use Altenew Hexagon Stencil, Altenew mini blending brush, and Altenew Permanent Black ink to create the stenciled background.
- Stamp and die cut the flower and leaves using Altenew Calming Reverie Stamp and die set. Dye ink colors used for this flower were Altenew Crimson, Heartbeat, and Dark Chocolate inks. For the center of the flower I used Altenew Warm Sunshine and Firebrick dye inks. Dye ink colors used for the leaves were Altenew Just Green, Green Opal, and Green Onyx.
- Stamp and fussy cut the butterfly using Altenew Mini Butterfly stamp set. I stamped it with Versamark Ink and heat embossed the image using a black sparkle embossing powder. Using Altenew Basic Watercolor set, I water colored the butterfly in blue and teal.
- Stamp and emboss mini block sentiment “Thankful for you” on black cardstock using Versamark and white embossing powder.
- Adhere leaves onto card with liquid glue.
- Use dimensional foam tape on the back of the flower, the butterfly, and the sentiment. Adhere all three to the card with the butterfly on top of the flower.
- Finish the card with a few sparkly sequins or gems! This card was easy to make.
Below are more cards I made using the the Altenew “Wild Wonders” theme.
For the cute butterfly card with the color block triangle background, I created it using these steps:
- Use the Altenew Color Block Triangle Stencil, place it on a card panel, and then use these Altenew Inks and an Altenew Mini Blending Brush to create a fun, colorful background: Peach Perfect, Vanilla, Frayed Leaf, Cloudy Sky, Amethyst, and Pink Diamond.
- To create faux paint splatters, I used the Altenew Snowing mini stamp set and Altenew Permanent black ink over the center of the card to give a look like paint splatters. Another alternative is to use the Altenew Paint Splatter Stencil, but since the butterfly is from the mini set, I only wanted a small bit of paint splatter in a controlled area.
- Stamp and fussy cut the butterfly using Altenew Mini Butterfly stamp set. I stamped it with Versamark Ink and heat embossed the image using a black sparkle embossing powder. Using Altenew Basic Watercolor set, I water colored the butterfly in blue and teal.
- Stamp mini block sentiment “Thankful for you” on cardstock using Altenew Permanent Black ink.
- Adhere ink blended panel onto card base with liquid glue.
- Use dimensional foam tape on the back of the butterfly and the sentiment. Adhere all both to the card with the butterfly in the center on top of the paint splatter.
For the horse card – I like to call it my “Wild West” card, It took a little more time to make, but I loved the results. I actually struggled with this card until I got the layout right. Originally, I had planned to have the front of the panel cut with the gothic arched window to look into it and see the mountains and the horse carriage. However, it was sort of bland that way. Then I kept thinking it would be nifty to make it semi-layered with the grass and sky in the background and the mountains to go across the window. I like how this turned out! Here’s how I made it:
- Use Altenew Deco Stencil and place on top of black heavyweight cardstock, Altenew blending brush, embossing Ink, and Altenew gold embossing powder. Heat set the gold embossing powder.
- Die cut a window out of the middle of the card front.
- Adhere white cardstock to the inside of the card base.
- Watercolor the sky and grass using Altenew Basic Watercolor Pan set. I used the blue and green watercolors and covered the whole cardstock with these two colors keeping the blue at the top and the green at the bottom.
- Use the Altenew Once Upon A Time stamp set to stamp the mountains, road, trees, and horse carriage on cardstock. For the road, mountains, and horse, I used Altenew Dark Chocolate Ink to stamp the outlines.
- Next, watercolor the mountains, road, and horse carriage. I used brown, black, and yellow watercolors for the horse and carriage. Brown was used for the mountains and road.
- I stamped the trees using these Altenew inks: green opal, green onyx, and just a small amount of evergreen ink.
- Once everything dried, I assembled the card with the mountains going across the window and the trees placed behind the mountains and the horse carriage in front.
- I added a panel to the inside of the card so that I could write on it. I actually left this card without a sentiment, but I think a small sentiment with white embossing powder would be super cute on it.
Next up, we have the easy flamingo card.
- Cut a panel to 4.25×5.5 inches. I chose black cardstock so that the color would pop.
- Mix texture paste and a few drops of Altenew Just Green ink together. If you don’t have the re-inkers, you can also use a watercolor brush and get excess water to run over the inkpad and drop into the texture paste. Mix completely to get desired green hue.
- Lay Altenew Leaf Stencil over panel.
- Smooth tinted texture paste over stencil and panel.
- Remove stencil and allow several minutes to dry.
- Stamp flamingo from the Altenew Mini Flamingo Stamp set in Altenew Permanent Black ink.
- Watercolor flamingo using Altenew Basic Watercolor Pan set.
- Stamp the small “hello” sentiment from the Altenew Mini Flamingo stamp set in Altenew Permanent Black ink on a small piece of white cardstock.
- Die cut flamingo using the coordinating die.
- Add dimensional foam tape to the back of the flamingo and hello sentiment and adhere to the bottom of the card.
Our final card was the “Wild Thang” card with the leopard print, a small butterfly, and some greenery!
- Cut a top-folding card base to 4.25×5.5 inches.
- Next, die cut a circle from the center of the front of the card base. On the inside of the card, adhere a panel of cardstock to enclose the circle from the inside.
- Lightly rub anti-static powder over card base and circle.
- Stamp the sentiment using embossing ink.
- Pour white embossing powder over the sentiment and heat set it.
- Use Altenew Leopard Stencil and place on top of the card base. Use an Altenew mini blending brush and rub Versamark Embossing Ink over the stencil.
- Remove stencil and pour copper or bronze embossing powder over stenciled card front. Remove any excess embossing powder.
- Use a heat tool to heat set the embossing powder.
- On a small piece of card stock, using Altenew Persian Blue, Permanent Black, and Sunshine inks, stamp the cross stitch butterfly from the layering Altenew Cross Stitch stamp set. Then, fussy cut the butterfly.
- Glue the leaves from the Altenew Boho Vases Die set to the center of the card on the open circle.
- Add foam adhesive to the sentiment circle and pop it up on top of the leaves closing the opening in the front of the card.
- Adhere the butterfly to the top left of the sentiment.
