Let’s Get Sentimental – Altenew Educators’ Video Hop

Hello crafty friends! Thanks so much for joining me today for our Altenew Video Hop + Giveaway with the theme “Let’s Get Sentimental”. This card was so cute! While it took a little bit of time, it is definitely worth it! Let’s make this card! Check out the video below. If you prefer step-by-step written instructions, see the steps below!

Cards by Candy – Let’s Get Sentimental Altenew Educators’ Video Hop + Giveaway
  1. Cut a card base to 4.25in x 5.5in using heavyweight 130lb cardstock.
  2. Cut a panel to 4in x 5.25in.
  3. Use Altenew Illusion Hexagons stencil, Altenew Caramel Toffee Ink, and a blending brush to ink the stencil onto the panel. This will give a deep golden, light tan color. Put more ink on the bottom and gradually make it lighter while blending upwards.
  4. Once dry, adhere panel to card base.
  5. Die cut Layered Ornate Frame base from rose gold glitter cardstock. Die cut this same frame base from 130lb heavyweight cardstock 4 more times.
  6. Glue these frames together to create a sturdy frame and add dimension.
  7. Die cut the leaves and flowers using this layered set and a gradient of pinks and greens, and yellow for the center of the flower.
  8. Adhere the die cut pieces together to create the layered flowers and leaves.
  9. Glue these flowers and leaves onto the frame base. The frame base is a helpful guide as each flower has a specific spot on the frame. Set to the side to dry.
  10. Use Versamark clear ink and the “From the Bottom of My Heart” stamp from the Altenew Heartfelt Sentiments Stamp set to stamp at the bottom of the card panel. Pour black embossing powder on it and heat set it.
  11. Take a thin, black rectangle strip and stamp the “Thinking of You” larger font stamp from the Altenew Heartfelt Sentiments using Versamark clear ink. Pour white embossing powder over it and heat set it.
  12. Adhere the “Thinking of You” sentiment to the middle of the frame. You will need to use foam dimensional tape or scrap strips to glue on part of the back of the sentiment strip to ensure it lays evenly.
  13. Adhere frame to middle of card.
  14. Add light embellishments around the frame.

The longest part of this card was the die cutting and gluing the layered pieces together. Normally when I use a layering die set, I adhere a double-sided adhesive sheet to the back of the cardstock for faster completion. However, since this was my first time to use this set, I didn’t want to take the chance of adhering the wrong pieces together. Now that I know which pieces go together, in the future, I will use the adhesive sheets instead of the liquid glue to save time. A tip for if you don’t have all the gradient cardstock is to do ink blending using the color you need.

A few tips if you are new to card making, before stamping a sentiment or image in Versamark ink, you will need to prep the cardstock with an antistatic powder and brush away any stray powder pieces before heating. Another tip is when I look at a product to use, I sometimes draw out design sketches for cards to give me ideas. It is perfectly okay to change up your design if you see it is not working.
