The longest part of creating these cards was the water coloring. Other than that, these were really simple to make. Let’s start with the gorgeous Altenew Billowing Flower Betterpress card.
- Cut card panel to 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches.
- Rub Altenew Magenta ink pad over all edges of the panel to create a rectangle of the magenta color.
- Let ink dry, then adhere to card base.
- Next cut another card panel to 4 inches by 5.25 inches.
- Take Altenew Intricate Tiles Embossing Folder and ink the side that is recessed.
- Run through embossing machine.
- Adhere to card base.
- Cut another panel from cotton heavyweight cardstock (the best for letterpress) to 3.75 inches by 5 inches.
- Align flower plate on platen using grid lines and ink in light brown Betterpress ink. Also align sentiment on platen and ink in pink Betterpress ink.
- Then, place cotton cardstock panel on top of plate.
- Run through the machine, then remove to see a gorgeous letter pressed flower.
- Watercolor flower using Altenew Essentials Watercolor palette – I used the purple and magenta for the flower and the greens for the leaves. Then, watercolor the corners and edges with the brown to create a vintage look.
- Use foam dimensional tape behind the watercolor panel, then adhere to card base.
- Finish by adding tinted clear drops to mimic rain drops.
It was so simple to make and the photo does not show the detail from this plate. It really is a gorgeous plate set!

For the hummingbird card, I used these steps:
- Cut card panel to 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches.
- Rub Altenew Emerald ink pad over all edges of the panel to create a rectangle of the emerald color.
- Let ink dry.
- To add the flower plate from the Altenew Hummingbird Nectar Betterpress Plate set, align flower plate on platen according to gridlines to be at the top left corner.
- Ink with Altenew Embossing Ink or Versamark Ink.
- Rub antistatic powder over emerald card panel, then place panel emerald side touching plate (facedown). Run through die cutting machine.
- Reposition plate to be at the bottom right corner, re-ink with Altenew Embossing Ink or Versamark Ink. Add emerald card panel on top, then run through machine.
- Pour Altenew Gold embossing powder over letter pressed flower and heat set it until the powder has melted and shines.
- Adhere to card base.
- Round all corners of card.
- Cut another panel from cotton heavyweight cardstock (the best for letterpress) to 3.75 inches by 5 inches.
- Create a watercolor sun and sky with Altenew Watercolor Essentials Palette.
- Let dry, then place the hummingbird and the sentiment on platen. Ink with black Betterpress Ink, then place watercolor side facedown on inked Betterpress Plates.
- Run through machine.
- Use alcohol markers or artist markers to color in humming bird.
- Next, using Altenew Simple Frames Stencils, ink the frame with Altenew Rose Gold Pigment ink. It comes with a mask to cover any area in the middle.
- Step-up frame by embossing the coordinating embossing Altenew Simple Frames embossing folder.
- Fussy cut around outer edges of frame. This is really easy to do since the embossing folder has so much detail.
- Use foam dimensional tape to adhere to the top of the emerald card base.
