With a Twist

Hello! Welcome back! Thank you so much for visiting. Today our focus is on creating cards with a twist. Specifically, the focus is when we mix modern with vintage to create a simple card. I learned several techniques from this class to create a card with a twist. Some of the techniques include the following: using acetate to create a double window shaker card with a die of a different shape and mix modern with vintage by using vintage colors, but using a modern style font.

When thinking of the card I wanted to make, I had recently purchased the Altenew Enjoy Your Journey stamp and die set. If you haven’t seen this set yet, it really is a gem that mixes vintage with modern. I couldn’t have picked a better set to create a modern vintage card with a twist.

I started by creating a regular A2 size card measuring 4 1/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches. After scoring the card base at 4 1/4 inches, I left the base flat. Then, I used the suitcase die from this set to die cut the suitcase in the top center portion of the card. After that, I placed a panel on the inside of the card and lightly traced the die opening on the panel. This helped to ensure that I would die cut the panel in the correct location for the inside panel. Once traced, I die cut this panel and set it to the side. I repeated this step to trace the die cut on the inside of the card base where I needed to stamp the suitcase to align perfectly with the die cut window. After tracing on the inside, I stamped the suitcase.

For the next step, I glued a small square of acetate to the inside flap of the card base to the back side of the die cut opening. This created my outside window. Next on the inside, I placed foam dimensional tape around the window. I used an antistatic tool on the acetate and around the foam dimensional tape to remove some of the stickiness. Then, I removed the release paper from the foam dimensional tape. After that, I took the panel I had set aside and glued another square piece of acetate on this panel. Then, I added some gold sequins to the window. I carefully aligned the two windows, the card base and the panel, in order to create the double window.

I began coloring the suitcase on the inside of the card with alcohol markers. On the front of the card, I stamped the scripted “Enjoy” stamp to create the vintage font of the card. Then, I stamped the “Every Moment” stamp with the modern font on the navy blue strip and embossed it. I angled the sentiment strip and added a slightly larger glitter cardstock strip to accent the sentiment strip. I really wanted to keep this card simple on the front, which is what I learned from the class, to mix the vintage with the modern. I added three gold sequins and completed the card.
