Creative Watercolor Media

Hello, hello! Thanks so much for stopping by and welcome back! Today we are looking at creative watercolor media that I learned from my Altenew Educator Program. There were all sorts of wonderful tips using watercoloring. To narrow it down, I focused on these three tips from the lessons: use stencils to watercolor, use perfect pearls spray to add shimmer, and use a skinny banner for the sentiment. I love how my card turned out, but once it was completed, I had forgotten to stick it on my gray card base, which was another tip from the class. However, it still turned out pretty!

Before this class, I had steered away from watercoloring because I had the notion I could not do it well. Then, I took this class and learned so many tips that I will try to use it on more cards. Let’s check out how I created it.

First, I used a thick watercolor paper and then I taped down the Altenew Hand-drawn Tile Stencil on my Altenew craft mat. I knew I wanted to use the beautiful, rich jewel tones inks for the colors. I started in a rainbow order with Raw Amber and gradually painted all the way down until I used the Green Opal ink. To watercolor it, I spritzed the entire panel with water. Then, I smooshed each ink spot on some acetate. I took my Altenew Watercolor brush and worked from the top lightest color down to the green opal at the bottom.

I allowed this panel to dry a little naturally before heat-setting it. I sprayed a light mist of shimmer spray over it to give it that burst of shine. Once that dried, I glued down the panel on a white card base. Next time, I will try using the gray card base I had cut, but forgot to use! Using Versamark Ink, I stamped the sentiment from the Altenew Apothecary Labels on a skinny strip of black cardstock. I added white embossing powder and heat set it. I cut about 3 more small strips of the black cardstock and glued those to the back for added dimension. I put small black foam dimensional dots on the back of the sentiment strip and placed it in the center of the card panel to complete the card.

This card was very easy to create. I thought it looked great with just the watercolor panel and the small sentiment strip. Let me know what you think in the comments! Thanks again for stopping by!
