Beautiful Details

Hello! Welcome back to another fun day of card making! The focus for today’s card comes from my Altenew Educator class about Beautiful Details. I truly enjoyed this class! The tips from the lesson I will be focusing on for this card will include the following: using artist markers for the ink, use 2nd and 3rd generation stamping, sketching in strokes and lines to add interest, color in layers, and coloring on vellum.

I love the use of vellum from this class. Vellum previously had not been my go to paper choice, not because I did not like it, but more that I would simply forget to use vellum on projects. I am thankful this lesson used it in different ways other than just stamping a sentiment.

An Altenew stamp and die set I have had for a while is the Book Club set. I have used this on other projects and for creating bookmarks, but I had not ever thought about stamping it on vellum. One of the lessons from the class was to create a no-line coloring on vellum using Versamark ink and artist markers for the ink. I started by stamping the large feature image from the Book Club set onto vellum using Versamark ink. I used a heat tool to dry it. Then, turning over to the back of the clear stamped image, I began coloring it with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. By turning the image over and coloring on the reverse image, this protects the nibs of my alcohol markers.

From the Spectrum Noir Jade Green group, I used JG2 and JG4 for my leaves. I started with my lightest color to layer the inking to build up for the shading. You’ll notice that coloring on vellum will be different than coloring on cardstock. The color will be quite a bit lighter on vellum. Next, I used DP1, AV2, and AV4 for the flower. I started by coloring all flowers in DP1, which was very light. I had to color it a second time to make it more noticeable. As I added in the AV2 and AV4 colors, I created line strokes to add details and interest. Once the flowers and buds were completed, I used LG2 and LG4 to color in the ring. A golden yellow would have worked well for this ring as well; however, I knew I was going to put this on a dark gray card base, so I chose to keep the ring in gray.

After coloring the large image, I die cut it using the outer die as well as the inner circle die. I took the inner circle piece and stamped Sending Hugs from the Altenew Fancy Greetings stamp set. I heat set all the coloring on vellum to help it dry quicker. I also die cut the circle from a bright white cardstock. Then, using double sided clear tape, I glued down the round vellum sentiment onto the cardstock circle.

Next, I took a white cardstock panel cut to 3 3/4″ by 5″. Using the Altenew Pattern Play: Diamond stamp set, I took the solid three diamond image and inked it with Stampin’ Up! Misty Moonlight ink. I stamped off onto a scrap piece of cardstock, then on the cut panel, at the bottom right, I stamped the image slightly off the edge once. This gave me the 2nd generation stamp. Then, I stamped the same image offset from the first stamping to create a diamond in the middle. This created the 3rd generation stamping. I repeated this on the top left of the cardstock panel. By doing this, I created my own argyle image by using 2nd and 3rd generation stamping. I rounded out the corners of the panel and then glued it down to a gray card base.

I glued down the vellum flower image diagonally so that it would fully cover the middle portion of the white cardstock. I used the clear double-sided tape on the darkest parts of the flower to keep from being visible. Then in the circle opening, I adhered foam dimensional tape to the back of the sentiment. I popped the sentiment in the middle of the opening and completed the card by adding blush pearl embellishments. This really was a simple card to create and I love how it turned out. I will definitely make this card again and switching up my flower colors for variety.
